Dental sealants are thin, plastic coatings that are painted on the biting surfaces of the back teeth.  Sealants block food and bacteria from entering the narrow grooves of the teeth where decay is most likely to occur.

CCBH participates in the Ohio Department of Health’s dental sealant program as a sub-grantee of the Summit County Health Department.

How the program works:

The Cuyahoga County Board of Health works with local schools to provide free dental sealants for 2nd and 6th grade students.

  • Students are seen by a dental hygienist at their school.
  • A dental hygienist and dental assistant place the sealants on the teeth.
  • Parents are notified if other dental problems are found for follow-up care.
  • Students are re-checked the next school year to make sure sealants are still present. New sealants are place if the student has new teeth.

 Participating school districts include:

  • Bedford
  • Berea
  • Constellation Schools
  • Euclid
  • Lakewood
  • Maple Heights
  • North Olmsted
  • Parma
  • Richmond Heights
  • South Euclid/Lyndhurst
  • Warrensville Heights
