Dementia caregiving in Cuyahoga County

Dementia refers to the loss of memory and other cognitive abilities severe enough to interfere with daily life. In Cuyahoga County, 1 in 5 caregivers provides care to someone with dementia, most often a family member.
Key insights:

  • 20.7% of caregivers support individuals with dementia.
  • Majority are female (57.8%), and caregiving spans all age groups, with the largest share aged 55–64 (31.2%).
  • Over 1 in 4 caregivers also care for a child, and many provide personal care and household support for two or more years.
  • Mental health challenges are common: 19.8% report poor mental health, and 20.2% have a history of depression.
