2025 Q1 Syphilis Data Brief

The Syphilis Report Q1 2025 provides an overview of newly reported syphilis cases across Region 3 and Cuyahoga County from January 1 to March 31, 2025. During this period, 152 cases were recorded across all stages of illness, with secondary, primary, and early cases making up the majority. Region 3 continues to experience elevated syphilis incidence, with 188 new cases in Q1 2025 when expanding beyond Cuyahoga County trends.

In Cuyahoga County, January had the highest number of new cases (62). Demographic breakdowns show that 73% of cases occurred in males, 53% had a prior STI, and 27% were HIV‑positive. The 25–29 age group was the most affected. Of the 152 total cases, 132 (87%) individuals received treatment, while racial disparities in both treatment and infection patterns persist—particularly among Black/African American residents.
