2024-2025 Influenza Surveillance Summary

This report summarizes influenza surveillance data for the 2024–2025 season in Cuyahoga County. It presents key indicators used to monitor flu activity and severity, including influenza-associated hospitalizations, deaths, emergency department visits for influenza-like illness, school absences, over-the-counter medication sales, and vaccination coverage.

During the 2024–2025 season, influenza activity was classified by the CDC as a high-severity season across all age groups. Influenza-associated hospitalizations and deaths increased substantially compared to the previous season, with activity peaking in February. Despite increased impact, several indicators remained below historical thresholds for most of the season.

Data included in this report are derived from multiple surveillance systems, including the CCBH Respiratory Illness Surveillance Dashboard and the Impact Statewide Immunization Information System (ImpactSIIS). These findings support ongoing public health monitoring, seasonal preparedness, and prevention efforts, including vaccination and community mitigation strategies.
