Food safety education is a critical component of our food protection program. Our goal is to work together with our local operators so that they can provide a consistently safe and healthy environment for their staff and customers.

Educational requirements are outlined in Ohio Administrative Code, 3701-21-25.

Person-in-Charge certification (Level I)

Each licensed food facility, regardless of license risk level, is required to have at least one employee with Person-in-Charge certification present at all times during operation. This training is also required for high-risk mobile units.

Person-in-Charge certification in food protection provides basic safety and food handling training for students. The class is delivered in a traditional classroom format and takes approximately three hours to complete.

We also offer a corporate version of our Person-in-Charge training, which is held at your facility and specifically designed to meet the needs and concerns of your operation. If you are interested in scheduling a corporate training at your facility, please contact our office at 216.201.2000.

Please see the ODH website for a list of other approved manager courses and online offerings.

Manager certification (Level II)

As of March 1, 2017, all risk level 3 and 4 food facilities are required to have at least one employee with supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control food preparation.

Our office is approved by the Ohio Department of Health to offer the ServSafe Manager Certification course to meet this requirement. This course provides in-depth training for food managers and is designed for those following a career in the food industry.

The 16-hour course uses a textbook and all attendees must pass a final exam. The textbook and exam are provided with payment of class fees.

The course and exam is administered and proctored by CCBH staff.

Please see the ODH website for a list of other approved manager courses and online offerings.
