The Safe Sleep Cuyahoga program, formerly known as the Cribs for Kids, is designed to reduce sleep-related deaths.

Our staff provides safe-sleep education and works with local partners to help families that may be at risk.

Resources are offered to parents, including direct education and access to appropriate safe-sleep tools, such as Pack n’ Play and safe sleep kits.

Families that meet these guidelines are eligible for assistance:

  • Mother is at least 32 weeks pregnant
  • An infant lives in the home, is less than one year-old, and does not have a safe-sleep space
  • Household income is less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level

Caregivers, including non-custodial grandparents, are eligible. Families with twins and multiple births are also eligible.

Call 216.201.2001 ext 2019 for more information.

Safe Sleep Education Looks Like…

  • Alone– Baby should be placed to sleep in their safe sleep space with no pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, or anything else.
  • Back– Baby should always be placed to sleep on their back on a firm flat mattress with nothing on it besides a fitted sheet
  • Crib– Baby should be placed to sleep in a crib, pack n play, bassinet, or other safety approved sleep space for every sleep nap and night
  • Don’t Smoke– It is recommended that no one smokes or vapes around baby
  • Educate everyone– Educating everyone who will be around baby about safe sleep
  • Room temperature– The recommended temperature of the room where baby is sleeping is 68-72 degrees
  • Swaddling– Baby can be swaddled in a light receiving blanket until they start to show signs of being able to roll over.
  • Pacifiers– It is recommended that baby be offered a pacifier for sleep because it keeps baby from falling into too deep of a sleep.
  • Substance use– It is recommended to not use any substance that can change your ability to care for baby. Whether that is a prescription medicine, over the counter medicine, illicit drug, alcohol, or any other substance.
