Our Materials Management Program addresses waste going to landfills being handled in a safe and responsible manner. We also encourage recycling by businesses, communities and individual homeowners. By recycling more and placing less in our landfills, we can help extend the life of the landfill and help protect the environment.
The CCBH Materials Management Program routinely licenses and inspects solid waste facilities to assure compliance with Ohio Revised Code Section 3734 and Ohio Revised Code Section 3714 for Construction & Demolition Debris (C&DD) facilities.
The program is annually surveyed and approved by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA), which allows CCBH to conduct solid waste programs in Cuyahoga County.
Overview
Our registered health sanitarians inspect active and closed landfills, transfer stations, infectious waste treatment facilities, large generators of infectious waste, scrap tire generators and compost sites. Complaints regarding any of these facilities, along with open dumping complaints, are investigated in a timely fashion. Monitoring activities ensure that the environment and the health of the general public are not negatively impacted from solid waste facilities within our jurisdiction.
At the state level, we participate in new rule development through participation with government agencies and professional associations. Locally, we promote new and innovative programs which exceed any program mandates.
