2024 Syphilis Data Brief
The Syphilis Data Brief 2024 provides an overview of syphilis trends across Region 3 (Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, and Medina Counties). In 2024, 928 syphilis cases were reported, representing 42.72 cases per 100,000 residents. Over half of cases occurred among individuals ages 25–34, and 31% were primary or secondary syphilis. Among those diagnosed, 20% were also HIV‑positive, and 41% had a prior STI history.
Most cases occurred in males (70.2%), followed by females (28.6%) and transgender individuals (1.3%). Racial and ethnic disparities continue, with Black/African American residents accounting for the largest share of cases. Data reflect information available as of September 22, 2025.
