Our goal
To prevent foodborne illness caused by poor food handling practices and unsafe food products.
How we do it
- Provide education for professionals and the public
- Review plans for new and remodeled operations
- License and inspect all retail facilities
- Ensure businesses comply with state food safety code
- Monitor the flow of food from purchase to serving
- Conduct inspections at fairs, festivals and farmers markets
- Investigate public complaints and outbreaks
- Offer guidance during outages and emergencies
We do this work throughout the county, except in the city of Cleveland.

Lead Poisoning
Our lead poisoning prevention program offers a wide range of services with the ultimate goal of eliminating childhood lead poisoning. We also provide testing of the home and screening for elevated blood lead levels in children younger than six years-old.
