Influenza


sneezingInfluenza is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that each year:
  • 5-20% of the population gets the flu
  • more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from complications
  • 36,000 people die

Vaccination is the best way to prevent flu.

The Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH) offers vaccination at reasonable cost in convenient locations throughout Cuyahoga County.

Payment Methods

  • Fee covered by Medicare primary insurance.
  •  
  • $25 for adults 19 years and older
    • Cash or check accepted.
    • Receipt submittal for insurance reimbursement. 
    • Check with insurance company for reimbursement policy.
  • $12 for children 18 years and younger

Anyone can get the flu.  Some people become very sick.

Symptoms include:
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Tiredness
  • Dry cough
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle aches
  • Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea            
Older people, young children and people with chronic health conditions are at high risk for complications.  
Complications include:
  • Bacterial pneumonia
  • Ear infections
  • Sinus infections
  • Dehydration
  • Worsening of chronic medical conditions including asthma and diabetes.
